WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The city of Wisconsin Rapids has rolled out a new-look website.
Mayor Matt Zacher says most everything has migrated to wirapids.gov, including details on city meetings, street closures, parks and recreation info, and bill pay. He says this version is a complete remodel of the previous one, which he believes had too many hands involved.
“It kind of took on a life of its own with everybody having access to it,” said Zacher. “One thing I’ve learned over the years- if you don’t have a leader, sombody leading everything, and everybody’s leading it- then nobody is leading it. It’s just a free-for-all.”
This time, they relied on one point person. That allowed the design to take on a consistent look and feel. “It has a personality that’s created. It absorbs that personality.”
Residents should also note that the new website ends in .GOV, which means that all official city correspondence will include .GOVin the email address or URL. He says that should give residents confidence that they are dealing with official city employees and payment portals. “We did have a meeting with the Police and Fire Commission, where we talked about scams that are happening, [where they] seek out people that they may be able to manipulate or convince of something. It is happening [scammers] are getting people to withdraw large amounts of money and turn it over, because they think it’s for a good cause
“If you see the dot GOV, you know that it’s highly vetted,” added Zacher
Zacher says everyone currently signed up to receive news alerts from the city will need to sign up again through the new website after September 17th. That includes things like meeting notices, street closures, and other news releases from the city.
Other topics Zacher discussed with WSAU’s Mike Leischner include:
