CINCINNATI, OH (WSAU) — Andruw Monasterio belted a three-run homer in extra innings and Nick Mears held off a Reds rally in the bottom of the frame to secure a 6-5 win for the Brewers.
Brice Turang, Caleb Durbin, and William Conteras each recorded two hits. Quinn Priester went 5.1 innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs, but didn’t factor in the decision.
Milwaukee was down 2-1 going into the 9th and managed to tie the game on an RBI groundout by Sal Frelick. The two sides traded runs in the 10th.
Monasterio was called on to pinch hit with two on in the 11th, his homer giving Milwaukee a 6-3 lead. The Reds managed to bring home their placed runner and one more in the bottom of the inning, but Mears limited the damage to earn his first save of the season.
It’s the 14th straight win for Milwaukee, setting a new franchise record for consecutive wins. The same two teams will play again this afternoon, with coverage starting at 12:05 on WSAU.
