WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Mayor Doug Diny says he still plans to assemble a task force to examine a change in city leadership.
“We’ll maybe have a former Mayor, some legal people. It’ll be a cross-section (of people) probably slanted towards municipal expertise,” said Diny.
He wants the group to go into the matter, willing to hear from communities that have made the change. He notes that Wausau is actually an outlier when it comes to similar-sized cities in the state.”Of the 16 or 17 class two cities, all but five of them have a professional manager. The trend is moving in that direction.”
Diny proposed the move earlier this summer, saying professional leadership would help move development forward while stabilizing things a City Hall. The move came just after the City nearly entered into a development agreement with a 17-year-old.
He adds that previous Mayors, including Katie Rosenberg, have proposed additional professional staff such as a Communications Director or Chief of Staff. “Let’s look at this in the context of ‘do you understand why she was asking? Do you understand why I’m asking?’ Let’s not dismiss it until we actually look at those options and hear from the professionals. Hear why it’s working .”
Voters in Wausau shot down a referendum for a city Administrator about ten years ago.
