WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — More than 50 firefighters from multiple departments battled a large fire in a Wisconsin Rapids home on Thursday.
The fire broke out in the attic of the home at 830 Oak Street at about 3:00 PM. Crews from Wisconsin Rapids, Grand Rapids, Nekossa, Rudolph, and Port Edwards were first on the scene. Crews from Biron, Vesper, and Saratoga EMS followed.
All occupants of the home, which had two living areas, managed to escape. One of them was treated at a local hospital, and one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion and was treated at the scene.
Investigators say the fire was concentrated in the attic of the structure, causing thick smoke. Crews had it controlled by 3:45 PM and extinguished by 6:30.
The fire is believed to be accidental. No further information has been released.
