The Packers open the second half of the season by hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday at 12:00 PM at Lambeau Field. Green Bay is out to a 6-2 start, leading the NFC North Division by a game and a half over the Chicago Bears and appear headed to a second straight playoff appearance under Head Coach Matt LaFleur.
The Jaguars on the other hand, are just 1-7 under Head Coach Doug Marrone, now in the midst of a complete overhaul of a rebuilding project what with 16 draft picks and undrafted rookie free agents on his roster.
But it’s the Packers who should make sure Marrone and the Jaguars organization is on their Christmas Card list.
Four key contributors to the Pack’s success on the offensive side of the ball came to Green Bay because they were no longer wanted in Jacksonville. The list, in order of their appearance in Green Bay includes venerable tight end Marcedes Lewis who arrived as a free agent in 2018, Offensive Coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, wide receiver Allen Lazard and return man turned into Mr. Versatile on offense, Tyler Ervin.
LaFleur discussed his J-Ville connection and what kind of impact they’ve made on his team.
Aaron Rodgers also addressed the media via Zoom today and he also explained how much his offensive teammates have meant to their success and then discussed at great length his appreciation and affection for his offensive coordinator.
The Packers returned to the practice field today and worked in helmets and shorts on a sunny but brisk day. Safeties Will Redmond and Vernon Scott returned to work after getting hurt last Thursday in Santa Clara. Better news for David Bakhtiari, he was a full participant for the first time in nearly three weeks while dealing with a chest injury.
The only players who did not participate were Za’Darius Smith (not injury related), Darius Shepherd (shoulder), Rick Wagner (knee) and Jaire Alexander (concussion/hand).
The Packers made a roster move today, placing running back Dexter Williams on the Injured Reserve/Practice Squad list after he suffered a knee injury against the 49ers. Green Bay added running back Mike Weber to the practice squad. Weber had a productive career at Ohio State and was a sixth round pick of the Dallas Cowboys in 2019 and spent the past two seasons on the Dallas and Kansas City Chiefs practice squads.
Number one draft pick J0rdan Love was activated back onto the 53 man roster coming off the Reserve/Covid 19 list. Love was a high risk close contact with his roomate Krys Barnes who tested positive for the coronavirus after returning from the west coast. Barnes and A.J. Dillon are the last two players on the reserve list.
Pro Football Focus announced it’s 2020 Mid-Season All Pro team and the Packers were well represented with four, first team selections. They were Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams and Corey Linsley on offense and Jaire Alexander on defense.
