MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Brewers’ three-game winning streak came to an end on Wednesday afternoon when the Houston Astros scored nine runs on eight hits to defeat the Brewers 9-1.
Eric Haase’s solo home run in the fifth inning brought Milwaukee’s lone run within reach at 3-1, but Houston’s Jeremy Pena took advantage of the Brewers’ pitchers, going two for five and recording four RBIs on the day.
Brewers third baseman Vinny Capra was given another opportunity on Wednesday to break out of his historic slump, but went 0-4, bringing his batting average down to an abysmal .074 on the season. Capra had gone 0-for-36 in at-bats before ending his hitless streak in the eighth inning of the Brewers’ 5-1 victory over the Astros on Monday.
Quinn Priester got the start for the Brewers on Wednesday, pitching five innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits before Elvin Rodriguez entered the game and allowed six earned runs on five hits. Houston’s starter Framber Valdez got the win after pitching seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits.
Milwaukee gets the day off on Thursday as they travel to Tampa Bay to start a three-game weekend series against the Rays on Friday night. Jose Quintana gets the start for the Brewers, while Zack Littell will take the mound for Tampa Bay, and the first pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. on WSAU.
