STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The second of the three Wausau-area men accused of beating a Stevens Point man who died from his injuries will be sentenced on Friday.
Christian Emerson will be sentenced at 2:30 PM for one count of reckless homicide with a special modifier due to the victim’s age. Investigators say he and two others, Arlin Sangster and Brandon Boehm, beat Donald Mitchell Jr as they were rummaging through his vehicle.
The 71-year-old was rushed to a Stevens Point hospital, then taken to Wausau, where he died from his injuries the next day. Doctors said he showed multiple fractured ribs, and nearly every bone in his face was broken.
Emerson faces up to 46 years in prison: 40 for the reckless homicide count and another six years due to Mitchell’s age. Friday’s sentencing begins at 2:30 PM.
He pled no contest to the charge in early January, avoiding a jury trial.
Sangster was found guilty at trial last fall and was sentenced to 20 years in state prison in December. Boehm reached a plea deal with the state earlier this month for a count of second-degree reckless homicide and faces 31 years in prison when he’s sentenced in April.
