WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Board announced on Wednesday morning that the organization will comply with an executive order signed by President Trump earlier this month designating women’s sports leagues for biological females only.
According to a statement from the WIAA, the organization is “working in consultation with legal counsel, our Board updated this policy to ensure clarity is provided to our membership as they work to comply with new federal guidance from the White House,” after the president signed the order on February 5th, which coincided with National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
“It is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” Trump said in a statement regarding the order.
The WIAA’s decision comes not long after the NCAA also complied the president’s order limiting women’s collegiate sports to biological females after the Boise State girls volleyball team as well as the Wyoming, Utah State, Southern Utah and Nevada Reno women’s volleyball programs made national headlines after they decided to forfeit multiple games including the Mountain West Volleyball Championship this past season against the San Jose Spartans due to the university allowing biological male Blaire Fleming to play on the women’s team.
