MAUSTON, WI (WSAU) — A man suspected of killing one woman and two children made a court appearance on Thursday.
Virgil Thew faces three counts of intentional homicide, hiding a corpse, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Investigators say he killed 33-year-old Elizabeth Kolba and two girls, ages 13 and 12, then locked their bodies in the bedroom of a home before fleeing.
The 47-year-old was initially named a person of interest but was charged with the killings on January 3rd. He remained at large for another seven days before he was taken into custody on January 10th.
He remains jailed on a $5 million bond. During Thursday’s hearing, a judge reviewed the amended complaint against him.
Further court action was scheduled for May 22nd.
