WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — A former coach at Assumption High School was not sentenced as scheduled on Monday for five counts of capturing an intimate representation.
Court records show a judge adjourned Monday’s hearing for Seth Milkey without handing down a sentence. Instead, he instructed both sides to file motions one week before a rescheduled sentencing date of March 3rd.
Charges stem from images of students found on Milkey’s laptop last spring. When he was confronted with them, he became defensive and allegedly threatened to kill himself. Officers arrived at his home for a welfare check and discovered the images of at least 10 students on an external hard drive.
Investigators learned the images were taken by a hidden camera set up in a bathroom at Milkey’s home. The Catholic Diocese of La Crosse released a statement shortly after the charges came to light, saying they have cooperated with the investigation. They added that Milkey passed all of their background checks “before and during” his time as a coach with the school. The statement added that having students visit him at his home for counseling was a “clear and troubling violation of diocesan and school policy.”
Milkey has pled guilty to five of the ten counts against him. He faces up to 17.5 years in prison at sentencing.
The images were taken between 2019-2023. The 34-year-old left his position at Assumption in 2021 to pursue other opportunities.
