STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Dozens of pickleball players and enthusiasts gathered at SentryWorld for a big announcement Thursday.
Sentry Insurance is donating $500,000 toward the creation of new pickleball courts in Plover.
Project leaders say it will be called the Sentry Pickleball Complex at Lake Pacawa Park.
Sentry, along with more than 100 donors, raised more than $700,000 total.
According to the Heart of Wisconsin Pickleball Association, that money will fund 12 new courts, seating, and new parking. Association board member Jay Johnson says it’s been a lengthy process. “We’ve been working on this, probably, for five years,” said Johnson. “And to see it come to fruition and get the support of Sentry Insurance is exciting.”
Sentry CEO Pete McPartland says there’s been a noticeable increase in the sport’s popularity, so much that he may even learn how to play. “We just saw how in demand pickleball is,” explained McParland. “So, when we had the opportunity to get behind the Village of Plover and help make it happen, it was easy to do and we’re very proud of it.”
Construction is expected to be done in July of 2025, just in time for the Celebrate Plover event.
