MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — There’s a buzz in Marshfield following the merger of Sanford Health and Marshfield Clinic.
Administrator Steve Barg says the move has calmed the nerves of many, including himself. “It’s a really big thing here. We are really happy the merger came together. I’ve heard great things about Sanford and we are seeing evidence of that already,” said Barg. “There’s already talk of [reviving] some projects at the clinic that have maybe been on the shelf.”
Barg couldn’t provide specifics about those projects but says officials with Sanford have expressed a desire to be active in the community. He says he would love to partner with them on a project like the Sanford Sports Complex in Sioux Falls, which features a cluster of indoor and outdoor sports facilities. “We would love to see them come to the table and be part of a project like that. There’s been talk about a facility in the Mill Creek Business Park, but that hasn’t come to pass yet. But I hear they are interested in having recreational amenities for employees, their families, and the whole community.”
The Sioux Falls complex features an indoor field turf facility with a weight room, outdoor football fields, an indoor ice arena, and a tennis center. It also includes the Sanford Pentagon, home of a 3,000-seat basketball and volleyball arena surrounded by practice courts. Baseball, soccer, and lacrosse facilities were recently added to the complex.
Barg says Marshfield Clinic’s financial woes have been well-documented over the last four years, and the Sanford deal helps put those to rest. “You can feel it everywhere. People are really glad to see this come together. They are hopeful this will be good for the medical complex and the whole community.
“There is a lot of excitement here,” added Barg.
