MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — One of the students injured in a shooting at a Madison school last month has been released from the hospital.
It’s been 45 days since the shooting at Abundant Life Christian School. Officials say the student is now recovering at home.
“The family would like to thank the countless UW Health Kids doctors, nurses and staff for saving their child’s life,” UW Health said in a brief statement.
One other student who was wounded in the shooting remains at UW Health in good condition.
Police are still working to determine a motive for the shooting that left a teacher and a student dead and injured six others.
Authorities say 15-year-old Natalie “Samantha” Rupnow opened fire in a study hall Dec. 16 at Abundant Life Christian Christian School in Madison before turning the gun on herself. Rupnow was in her first semester at ALCS.
Rubi Vergara, 14, was a freshman at ALCS and had attended the school since kindergarten. Erin West, 42, was a wife and mother of three daughters who worked as a substitute teacher at ALCS before accepting a position as the school’s substitute coordinator.
According to police, Rupnow had been exchanging messages with a 20-year-old California man who was arrested after allegedly planning with Rupnow to attack a government building with a gun and explosives.
Additionally, a report from ABC News says Rupnow may also have been in contact with 17-year-old Solomon Henderson, who killed one student and injured another when he opened fire in the cafeteria at Antioch High School near Nashville.
