MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Fire destroyed a camper outside Merrill on Tuesday.
Crews responded to what was intitally described as a brush fire along Highway 107 near Tri-Hi Trucking. What they found was a camper that had been fully engulfed.
Despite frigid conditions, crews managed to get the fire under control.
No one was in the camper at the time of the fire. When the owner returned, he told crews he had just stoaked a wood furnace before leaving. While the cause remains undetermined, firefighters said the furnace likely played a role.
The occupant was put up in a local hotel for the night courtesey of the Merrill Firefighters’ Charities.
