RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – One person is dead and six others injured after a car ran from law enforcement and then crashed Friday night.
According to a press release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, it happened at about 9:15 Friday night on Highway 47.
They say an Oneida County Sheriff’s deputy tried to pull a vehicle over, but that vehicle took off. That vehicle crossed over the centerline, and hit another vehicle near the intersection of State Highway 47.
The person driving the vehicle being chased died on scene, while the six people in the other vehicle were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
The officer involved in the chase has been put on administrative leave, per department policy.
They say the dashboard camera was active during the pursuit.
The Department of Criminal Investigation is now leading the investigation, and will turn over their findings to the Oneida County District Attorney’s Office.
