GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – Packers fans are being asked to keep an eye on their financial accounts and statements this year after the team detected a hack that affected those who made purchases from the team’s online Pro Shop this past fall.
Customers who used a debit or credit card to make purchases on the website between late September and the majority of October are believed to be the most affected, the team said in a press release. There was no impact on purchases made on the website with a gift card, PayPal, Amazon Pay, or made in person at the Pro Shop.
A notification letter has been sent to all potentially impacted consumers by the team, and to further assist those affected, the Packers are providing free identity theft protection and credit monitoring services.
This is the first time an NFL team has been successfully hacked since February of 2022, when the San Francisco 49ers were hacked and had their financial data stolen by the group known as BlackByte, who had hacked several other businesses and local governments around the country in recent years. The group did not make any public demands of the team, and the FBI is yet to make any arrests from the incident.
