PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Plover Administrator Steve Kunst is breathing a sigh of relief as construction wraps up on one of the biggest road projects in the village in recent memory.
“We are finally seeing some orange barrels disappear,” said Kunst. “County Highway B has been under construction from spring all the way through [fall.] There’s still some work to be done, but it’s my understanding that will just [involve] single lane closures in an area where they have some street lighting to finish up.”
Kunst says the year has also seen significant growth in the business and residential communities. That’s expected to continue into the new year. “Tractor Supply Company is looking to move into a section of the former Younkers building. Tommy’s Express car wash is looking in that same area, along County Highway B.
“We’ll continue strong residential growth as well. We’ve already gotten [indication] that we’ll get 15 to 20 new houses in January. I anticipate another strong residential year,” added Kunst.
On top of that Kunst says residents should be aware that the Village is planning a multi-million dollar expansion of the police and fire facilities at the current Village Hall site. Leaders held an open house on the issue last week, and he says more of those will come in 2025.
“[Those departments] didn’t come to us and say ‘we have some inconveniences, let’s do something big now.’ They said ‘we’ve done the best we can, and there is just no other space we can add. We are at a point where if we are going to be responsible with taxpayer funds, we need to make an investment,” said Kunst.
The plan is still in the development stages. No Village Board action is scheduled at this time and it is unclear when that may come.
