MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers will soon be interviewing for another coach as one of their top defensive coaches has accepted a promotion elsewhere.
After just one season in Madison, safeties coach Alex Grinch has been named Scott Frost’s new defensive coordinator at UCF, according to the Badgers Wire. Before joining Luke Fickell’s staff last off-season, he served as Lincoln Riley’s defensive coordinator at USC and Oklahoma.
During his 2023 season with the Trojans, Grinch’s defense struggled, allowing 432 yards per game, and was ranked 119th in the nation before he was fired midway through the season.
The Badgers will now have their fourth safeties coach in four years, as the secondary has been overhauled in recent weeks with veteran cornerbacks Max Lofy, Amare Snowden, and R.J. Delancy all announcing that they would be leaving the program to either transfer or enter the NFL Draft, allowing defensive coordinator Mike Tressel to have a fresh start in 2025, beginning with Tuesday’s signing of former All-CAA safety Matthew Traynor from Richmond.
