MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – The Milwaukee Bucks are expected to retain their current coaching staff and star players for at least the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.
According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick and Eric Nehm, the Bucks will be keeping head coach Doc Rivers despite the team’s slow start, saying, “For those asking about whether Rivers could be on the hot seat, let’s not forget the Bucks paid him approximately $40 million on a three-and-a-half-year deal less than a year ago. What’s more, (Jon) Horst is facing pressure because of how these past few seasons have gone, and league sources are skeptical he’d be given the leeway to make another coaching change this soon.”
After winning on opening night, Milwaukee has dropped seven of its last nine games and is 3-8 so far this season, despite Giannis Antetokounmpo averaging 31.6 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game and Damian Lillard averaging 26 points and 6.6 assists per game.
While discussing possible trade talks the team has had, Amick and Nehm don’t believe the team will move their star players this season, saying, “I could certainly see the Bucks doing some kind of deal, if not more than one, before the Feb. 6 deadline. But in terms of the big stuff that comes with their team’s calculus—Giannis, Dame, Doc, and Khris—I don’t see anything changing.”
The Bucks are in position to potentially go on a win streak this week as the Bucks host the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday night and travel to Charlotte to face the Hornets on Friday.
