GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The weekly awards are continuing to stack up in Titletown as another Packer was named to an NFL honor on Thursday.
According to a press release from the league, Packers safety Xavier McKinney has been named October’s NFC Defensive Player of the Month after continuing his strong start to the 2024 season with two intercepted passes, a recovered fumble, and a sack that played a crucial role in the team going 4-0 this month.
McKinney is the first Packer to be awarded the honor since former linebacker De’Vondre Campbell won it back in 2021 during his first team All-Pro season. He is also the first Packers safety to receive the honor since Atari Bigby won it back in 2007.
The Packers have now swept the NFL weekly awards after rookie linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday after a strong outing against the Jaguars on Sunday, which included a key pass 4th quarter pass breakup to keep Jacksonville out of field goal range.
Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for October, will come to Green Bay on Sunday for a pivotal matchup that may play a role in deciding who’ll win the NFC North this season.
