TWO RIVERS, WI (WSAU- WAOW) – The mother of Elijah Vue pleaded not guilty to charges related to his death on Wednesday in her first court appearance since his body was discovered last month.
Katrina Baur and her boyfriend Jesse Vang have been charged by Manitowoc County District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre with neglecting a juvenile under the age of six, two counts of obstructing an officer, and chronic mistreatment of a child, all of which carry potential life sentences. Baur is being held on a $400,000 cash bond after prior pleas to decrease her bond were denied.
Vue went missing on February 20th, and his remains were found roughly three miles northwest of the original reported missing location by a hunter preparing his tree stand for the upcoming hunting season. On the night he disappeared, Elijah was staying with Vang, who informed the police that Elijah was gone when he woke up from his nap. Vang, who is currently awaiting a new public defender to be assigned to his case, is being held on a $500,000 cash bond.
