MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) โ The Milwaukee Brewers had dropped three games in a row to the Arizona Diamondbacks and for much of Sunday it looked like it would be four. But, the Brewers came roaring back from an 8-0 deficit and beat the DBacks 10-9 on Sunday afternoon at American Family Field.
It was Milwaukeeโs biggest comeback since 2004 and only the fourth time in franchise history that they rallied from such a big deficit.
The big hits came from Rhys Hoskins and Jake Bauers. Hoskins, who drove in three runs on the day, fought off a slider on a 3-2 two out pitch in the 8th for a bloop single that drove in two runs and tied the game. Bauers followed with a swinging bunt that rolled past the pitcher and gave the Brewers the lead.
Willy Adames had two doubles among three hits and drove in a run. Other RBIs went to Jackson Chourio, Blake Perkins, Garrett Mitchell, Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz.
Ortiz also made two sparkiling plays at third base that saved runs and kept the comeback alive.
Brewer starter Frankie Montas got lit up for eight runs (seven earned) on six hits in just 2 2/23 innings. The beleagured bullpen however, picked him up giving up just one run over 6 1/3 innings. Jared Koenig picked up the win and Devin Williams got the save
The Brewers will have the day off before beginning the final week of the regular season at Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. They are 89-67 on the season.
