MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — An overnight crash involving a motorcycle and a bear shut down the southbound lanes of US 51 overnight, killing one motorcyclist. He’s been identified as Paul Bohman, 50, of Marshfield.
Officers were called to an area near County Road K at about 11:45 PM Friday where they found the man unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lincoln County Coroner.
Investigators say the biker was heading south when he struck the bear. No further information has been released, including if alcohol or speed were factors.
It’s the second deadly motorcycle crash in the last two days as the Northwoods prepares for this weekend’s Tomahawk Fall Ride. Martin L. Hrpcha, of Kankakee, Illinois, died Friday morning when he failed to navigate a curve and rolled his motorcycle into the ditch along Spring Creek Drive. He was also pronounced dead at the scene.
