OAKLAND, CA (WSAU) — The Milwaukee Brewers got back-to-back home runs from Rhys Hoskins and Joey Ortiz in an 11-3 win over the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
Those taters came in the 2nd inning and lifted the Brewers to a 4-1 lead on the home team. Jackson Chourio added an RBI single later in the frame and followed that with an RBI double in the 4th, helping the Brewers build a 7-1 lead after 4.
The bats would go quiet until the 9th when Gary Sanchez smacked a bases-clearing triple to bring home three. Hoskins would bring him home on a sacrifice fly one batter later to plate the 11th run.
Ortiz, Sanchez. Chourio, Sal Frelick, and Blake Perkins all finished with two hits. Willy Adames went 1-3 with two walks and two runs scored.
Aaron Civale started but didn’t factor in the decision. He pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs off four Oakland hits. Bryan Hudson got the win in relief, pitching two clean innings in the 5th and 6th with one strikeout.
It’s Milwaukee’s final trip to Oakland as the Athletics will leave the Collusium after this year for a three-year stay in nearby Sacramento, where they will simply be known as the Athletics. The team has plans to move to Las Vegas by 2027. Game two of the series is this afternoon with coverage starting at 2:35 on 93.9 The Game.
