MOSINEE, WI (WSAU-WAOW) -Central Wisconsin Airport will soon get a new fire truck.
The airport secured $862,209 in federal funding to replace one of its two fire trucks, the 2001 Oshkosh Striker.
There is a lot of technology inside and out that drivers are trained on each year it is in use. That includes two turrets to pump water at different angles to put out fires.
CWA Assistant Airport Director Mark Cihlar said it is being replaced for safety, but there is no one particular thing that is unsafe, it is really more about replacing a 23 year old vehicle to stay up to date. A single operator can discharge water and additional agents to put a fire out, while driving the truck,” said Cihlar. “It’s something that most of your typical fire trucks, they have to be stationary to be pumping water.”
Cihlar said when the airport has a commercial flight take off or coming in, they are equipped to respond with one of the fire trucks within three minutes.
The next thing CWA will look to improve with funding is a new hangar for the larger jets they have been seeing at the airport.
