MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – A new analysis has found that Milwaukee is one of the top 20 most expensive cities for renters in the U.S. as Americans continue to struggle with the everyday cost of living due to inflation.
Milwaukee is the 16th worst city for renters out of the 95 most populous U.S. cities, per the most recent Forbes Advisor survey. Among the cities in the analysis, Milwaukee saw the seventh-greatest increase in median rent prices, rising $100 between May 2023 and May 2024.
Forbes also found four amenities most valuable to renters are missing from most Milwaukee rentals. Less than 25% of rentals in Milwaukee allow pets; 27.9% have air conditioning; 18.9% offer laundry facilities within the unit; and less than 45% have on-site parking.
The cities ranked in the top five for worst renters included Oakland, Anaheim, and Long Beach, California, as well as New York City and Newark, New Jersey. However, the top five best cities for renters included both Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska, along with Raleigh, North Carolina, Austin, Texas, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
