STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Count Mayor Mike Wiza among the fans of the new Stevens Point Brewery taproom and gift shop.
The $1.1 million remodel of the historic building opened earlier this month. Wiza says he’s impressed with the attention to detail the design received, especially considering the age and historic nature of the building. “Point Brewery has been around since before the city was [chartered]. They have been an integral part of our community and all of Central Wisconsin.”
He says the current owners have taken the brand’s history and significance to the region seriously. “They understand the historic significance of the company that they own and have been entrusted to carry forward. When they did the taproom, they kept every piece of that in mind and made sure that they didn’t cut corners.”

Representatives from the brewery said the taproom was their most requested item from tourists. Until now they would be able to provide samples after tours, but there was no place to sit and enjoy a pint or two. The new space has seating for up to 99 people including a semi-private party area that opens into an outdoor beer garden.
As for the impact on tourism, Wiza says that’s difficult to measure but notes that the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau gets more calls about the brewery than anything else in the city. “That is the number one thing that people associate Stevens Point with. It’s Point Brewery. You can’t put a dollar value on that.”
The taphouse and connected gift shop are open seven days a week.
