WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wis.(WAOW)– The phrase ‘No One Should Go To Bed Hungry’ is something leaders of the South Wood County Empty Bowls Committee take seriously.
Community members and organization leaders celebrated the 10th anniversary of the South Wood County Empty Bowls Event.
“We have handmade bowls, so when they pay the $10, they receive a bowl that they can take home. Then attendees get a bowl of soup from one of the 11 providing restaurants,” said Mary Schultz, Chair of the Empty Bowls Committee.
The fundraiser also teaches valuable lessons to those who attend.
“Sometimes that’s all someone gets a day is a bowl of soup,” said Schultz.
Over 300 people attended the event, and Schultz said the organization hopes to raise at least $6,000.
“The money that’s raised will be given to the Focus Pantry, some will go to our meal program that is held on Thursday nights, and also to our backpack program along Nekoosa’s backpack program,” said Schultz.
