MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WRN) — A proposed Kenosha County Hard Rock Casino to be operated by the Menominee Tribe was in the spotlight in Madison on Tuesday.
Tribal leaders and local elected officials were at the Capitol for a media event.
They signed a ceremonial replica of an agreement reached between the tribe and Kenosha city and county.
Both the Kenosha Common Council and Kenosha County Board have approved the project, which will also require approval from the federal government.
Governor Tony Evers would have authority to veto the project slated for farmland off I-94.
Former Governor Scott Walker vetoed a previous Menominee-Hard Rock proposal in 2015.
The Ho-Chunk tribe also plans to open an off-reservation casino in Beloit.
