WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) – The Wausau School Board spoke with the Wisconsin Association of School Boards on Monday night to see what the process for hiring a replacement for Dr. Keith Hilts would look like.
The board asked Dr. Fran Finkel questions about the expected timeline for surveys to be completed to the final interview, which has the target goal of April 1st, 2024 to have finalists be chosen during a closed session meeting.
Stakeholder-led focus groups will play a large part in the district’s search, which is expected to start on February 6th. Dr. Finkel described how candidates will be graded through the surveys, saying, “We look for personal characteristics, and then there are options for people to rank and order those characteristics. We also look for leadership styles, so there are options there, skills and financial expertise as well as professional expertise.”
The focus groups are expected to consist of teachers, support staff, and administrative staff, with 8–15 people per group, and take about 45–60 minutes to complete. The board would then plan to meet and review the group’s results to create applicant questions on either February 15th or 19th.
Other notable dates laid out in the plan include the application deadline being on March 22nd, 2024, and reviewing the applications to choose the interviewees on March 25th.
