TOWN OF BRADLEY, WI (WSAU) — An 83-year-old Lincoln County man drowned Lake Nokomis early this week.
Officers were called to perform a welfare check on Monday when some family members say they were unable to contact him. The man, identified as Leroy Rupnow, wasn’t home but a K9 officer was able to pick up a scent that suggested he may have walked into the lake.
Search efforts were paused overnight. Officers resumed the search Tuesday morning and spotted an “abnormality” in the water about 30 yards from shore, which turned out to be Rupnow’s body.
Members of the Tomahawk Fire Department assisted in removing the body, and the Lincoln County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene.
Foul play is not suspected. The death remains under investigation by both the Sheriff and Coroner’s office.
Officers did activate a Silver Alert through the state’s crime alert network shortly before Rupnow’s body was discovered.
