JUNCTION CITY, WI (WSAU) – Authorities have confirmed Dennis Brandl, 74, as the victim who died on July 11 after colliding with a train while operating a farm tractor.
Sheriff of Portage County Mike Lukas stated that the accident happened on Eds Lane, close to County Highway G, in the Carson Township.
Authorities believe when Brandl attempted to cross the designated railroad crossing, according to investigators, he was towing a sizable tanker meant to transport manure. A northbound Canadian National Railroad train was struck by the tractor as it crossed the tracks. Brandl was declared dead after at the scene.
“It’s a very sad accident for the family, but it also should be a notice to the public to really start paying attention to these railroad crossings throughout every county,” Sheriff Lukas stated.
Since May, there have been two fatal railway crashes in Portage County. One was in the township of Carson, and the other was in Junction City.
