TOWN OF BUTLER, WI (WSAU) — A 67-year-old Thorp man was found safe after his family reported him missing overnight.
Friends and family say Duane Smith was returning to his home when his vehicle got stuck near S Butler Road and Middle Butler Forest Road in the township of Butler Wednesday evening.
Smith was able to contact his family and told them he would try to take a shortcut through the woods, but he later told them he had gotten lost. That’s when his cell phone died, and he lost contact with them at about 6:30 PM.
Numerous agencies were called in to search for Smith including the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Mounted Search and Rescue Team, Drone Team, and Marshfield Life Link Helicopter. They were able to locate him shortly after 3 AM Thursday, about five miles from where his vehicle was stuck.
Officers say Smith was in good spirits. No further information about the incident was provided.
