WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Discount grocer Aldi has opened a second location in the Wausau area.
The store held a ribbon cutting at 8:30 AM with customers already in line to get inside, according to WAOW TV.
“We’re really excited to be here today for our grand opening of our store here in Weston,” Director of Store Operations Doug Young told WAOW. “We thought that this was the best locations, not to be able to shop but serve a new community here as well.”
Aldi already has one location in Rib Mountain and a handful of other locations elsewhere in Central Wisconsin. The Weston store is part of their national effort to add more than 150 locations by the end of the year, which would make them the 3rd largest grocery chain in the USA.
Aldi is known for carrying store-brand products and utilizing methods such as encouraging customers to bring their reusable shopping bags and charging a 25-cent deposit for the use of a shopping cart (which is returned if the cart is returned inside the store) to keep prices low.
