WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Weston man accused of throwing a bag of meth and a handgun from a vehicle as he was leading officers on a high-speed chase through Weston and Rothschild is not fit for trial.
That’s the determination of a competency evaluation for Trenton McCorkle. Court records show Judge Gregory Strasser has ordered him to be sent to the Mendota Treatment Center for inpatient treatment.
In the meantime, the state proceedings against the 26-year-old have been put on hold. He faces two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and fleeing or eluding an officer, both of which carry repeat modifiers.
McCorkle is said to have led police on a high-speed chase last winter, weaving in and out of traffic down Business 51 until he crashed into a light pole. Officers later recovered a bag that was thrown from the vehicle during the pursuit which contained a large amount of meth, thousands in cash, and a handgun.
A review hearing in the case has been set for November 23rd.
