PORT EDWARDS, WI (WSAU) — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has completed their on-site investigation into skeletal remains that were found near a dam along the Wisconsin River in Port Edwards.
Officers say they’ve turned the remains over to the County Corner’s Office and a forensic anthropologist, who will now work to identify the person and their cause of death if possible.
Those details will be released at a later time.
Water levels in the area will be rising now that the investigation has wrapped, so residents in the area should use caution if they are by the river.
A total of 13 agencies were involved in the investigation including Police Departments from Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield, Port Edwards, and Grand Rapids. The Wood County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin Department of Justice, Wisconsin DNR, Rapids Search and Rescue, and Minnesota-Wisconsin Dive Team also helped out along with two different K-9 units.
All told the investigation lasted nearly 3 days.
