TOWN OF LINCOLN, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin Department of Justice is investigating an incident involving the assault of a DNR game warden, who then shot the person assaulting them causing non-life-threatening injuries.
Officers say it started when the warden pulled over a UTV for a routine traffic stop in the Town of Lincoln. A second UTV then approached the scene, and the driver got out of the vehicle and began assaulting the warden.
During the incident, the warden fired their weapon and struck the person. They were then hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The warden was also treated for undisclosed injuries from the incident.
The DOJ is now investigating the shooting with help from the Forest County Sheriff’s Office and Crandon Police Department.
The warden has been placed on paid leave while the incident is investigated.
