WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Events organizers are debuting a new event this weekend which will feature several elements of other popular events from years past.
Executive Director Alissandra Aderholdt says “Wings Over Wausau” will feature both local and professional airshows, local food, and fireworks beginning Friday at the Downtown Wausau Airport.
“We’ve had multiple different events out here that we’ve kind of combined into one,” said Aderholdt. “[We’ve pulled from] different events like fireworks fest, the balloon rally, Father’s Day Car Show, and summer kickoff. It’s all combined into this event this year.”
The airshows will be held both days with Saturday adding a local chicken wing competition. Five local bars and restaurants will offer their best chicken wing flavors with those in attendance serving as judges. Aderholdt says 300 judging tickets will be sold for $15 each on a first-come, first-serve basis so those interested in serving as judges will need to get there early.
There will also be a car and airplane show, drone demonstrations, and live music throughout both days. Each night will end with a fireworks show.
Admission is $5 per family or a donation of a non-perishable food item for The Neighbor’s Place.
Those going to the event are encouraged to park downtown and take free shuttles from the 400 Block. There will be a limited amount of parking in the neighborhood around the airport, and all airport parking will be reserved for handicapped access.
Gates will open at 4 PM on Friday and at 11 AM on Saturday. For the complete schedule of events including parking and shuttle information click here.
