MEDFORD, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of crashing into a buggy in Taylor County killing one person, and injuring several of her children was in court on Monday.
Skyler Opelt is now being held on a $100,000 cash bond as he faces numerous charges including operating a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance and homicide by negligent use of a vehicle.
Some of the children that were injured in the crash remain hospitalized. Taylor County Sheriff Larry Woebbeking says potential charges against Opelt could be changed as the result of the investigation or if more of the victims fail to recover.
The 35-year-old will return to court on January 4th.
Several local banks are taking donations for the family involved in last week’s crash. That includes all Prevail Bank locations statewide, while Abby Bank locations in Medford, Abbotsford, Wausau, Weston, and Shawano.
