WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW TV) — The Wausau Events group is cancelling this summer’s Wausau Balloon & Rib Fest which was scheduled for July.
In statement on their website the group said “Due to Covid19, we are not hosting the event in 2021. This decision was made based on local health official’s recommendations, slow vaccination rollout, the inability of this event to comply with local and state guidlines that are currently in place and predicted to be in place this summer.”
Lindsay Lewitske, interim director of Wausau Events told WAOW TV that “the experience we have come to know and love is not feasible and unfortunately we had to make this decision.” She also said “It is very unrealistic and we talked about how masking would be required in that large event and nealry impossible to enforce that mask policy.”
It’s unknown at this time if Chalkfest, which happens the same weekend, will also be cancelled.
