WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Weston woman is facing four felony counts for allegedly embezzling nearly $1 million from a Wausau-area property management company.
Lynn Loss is accused of taking money from Emmerich Properties while working as a contracted bookkeeper for the company, amounting to more than $928,000 over about six years. Investigators say Loss paid herself nearly double her actual salary and also used Emmerich’s funds to pay employees from her company, including family members.
When confronted by police, she admitted to using Emmerich’s funds to purchase items including motorcycles and some land. She also admitted to paying her employees from Emmerich’s accounts.
Felony charges against her include fraud by a corporate officer, identity theft, filing a fraudulent tax return, and presenting a fraudulent insurance claim. The latter stems from allegations that she filed a fraudulent workers’ comp claim for an employee who didn’t work for Emmerich.
The 66-year-old also faces misdemeanor counts for theft in a business setting and fraudulent data alteration. She was arrested this week and made an initial appearance on Thursday, where she signed a $10,000 bond.
Further court action is scheduled for September 10th. If found guilty at trial, she faces more than 12 years in prison.
