STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Cleanup continues in Stevens Point after ice downed branches and power lines on Thursday.
Sheriff Mike Lucas has released a list of warming shelters that are open and have heat. That list includes:
- Portage County Public Library Plover Branch until 12 PM
- Portage County ADRC until 12 PM
- Village of Almond Municipal Center until 12 PM- May be able to accommodate additional shelter hours.
- Portage County HHS (Ruth Gilfrey Building) until 12 PM
Additionally, the city anticipates that Frame Memorial Church will be able to extend its permit to continue warming shelter operations.
More centers may open as power is restored.
WPS reports that nearly 5,000 customers are without power in Stevens Point. About 1,000 customers are without power between Plover and Whiting, and some 2,000 customers in Hull still haven’t been restored.
