Shawna Munguia
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A former Wausau daycare provider accused of abusing an infant may have a plea deal with the state for charges of felony child abuse.
Shawna Munguia has been scheduled for a plea hearing on May 19th for reckless child abuse- causing great harm. Investigators say the 35-year-old repeatedly abused a four-month-old child that was under her care.
Doctors say the child showed signs of repeated trauma, including skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. Munguia initially told investigators that the injuries came from a fall, but later said she “might have probably shaken” the child out of frustration.
Munguia is free on a $2,500 signature bond with several conditions, including no contact with the victims and limited contact with her own children.
She has pleaded not guilty to the charges and faces up to 15 years in prison and $50,000 in fines.
