WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Wausau Mayor Doug Diny will present the city’s Public Works Department with a Recognition of Exemplary Service following last week’s record-breaking snowfall.
According to Tuesday’s agenda, Mayor Doug Diny will recognize “plow operators, mechanics, supervisors, dispatchers, and support personnel [who] worked relentlessly around the clock through blizzard conditions, high winds, heavy drifting, and near-zero visibility to clear essential roadways, maintain emergency access, and safeguard our community during one of the most intense snow events in recorded history.”
The recognition also includes acknowledgment of the hours those workers have put in, many of whom will have gone 12 days without an off day by Friday.
Wausau saw nearly 31 inches of snow between March 15th and 16th, an event that shattered multiple snowfall records. Crews worked 16-hour days during the storm and the days that followed to clear the streets
A copy of the declaration is included with Tuesday’s agenda packet.
