Wisconsin Badgers
STATE COLLEGE, PA (WSAU) — It took overtime, but the Wisconsin Badger women’s hockey team outlasted Penn State 4-3 in the Frozen Four.
Kirsten Simms netted the game-winner one minute into the extra frame. It was also her 100th career goal in a Badger uniform.
Liala Edwards recorded two goals and assisted on the game-winner. Adéla Šapovalivová also scored.
Ava McNaughton made 22 saves, including 13 in the third period.
Wisconsin will play Ohio State in the championship game on Sunday afternoon. The Buckeyes blanked Northeastern 5-0 in Friday’s other semifinal.
It’s the fourth straight year that Wisconsin and Ohio State will meet for the women’s hockey national championship. The Badgers are 3-1 all-time against Ohio State in NCAA tournament play.
