WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office is warning of another scam.
In a Facebook post last weekend, officers said they’ve received several reports of callers posing as officers and telling residents they need to clear up “legal matters from the Sheriff’s Office.”
“These scam calls are meant to create fear and urgency so people act before stopping to think. Do not let the caller pressure you,” officers add.
The Sheriff’s office will never contact you or demand payment over the phone. Officers will also never demand personal information such as bank account numbers, credit card numbers, or other sensitive data.
