RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Village Board of Trustees decided to delay action on a proposed multi-use building added to the plaza with Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and 7 Brew.
This decision follows complaints from residents who are concerned about increased traffic congestion due to the recent developments.
One resident mentioned his two young kids and said he doesn’t even want them in the car because of the traffic congestion and the lack of safety he feels going through intersections.
Another resident added that the Chick-fil-A, Chipotle exit, “right now it is dirt and you can’t see what is coming around the corner. When you put a building there, no one is going to be able to see what is coming around the corner.”
Briq’s Soft Serve, which is currently closed for the season, is now being used as parking for Chick-fil-A employees.
“They are bringing people down in front of Briq’s to help alleviate some of that traffic,” said trustee Fred Schaefer. “What is going to happen when Briq’s opens back up?”
Other trustees highlighted existing traffic issues among the three current businesses in the area.
“The 7 Brew’s traffic has actually been backing up in front of where this building is going to go, pretty regularly,” said trustee Gerry Klein. “It would be my proposal that we delay this, and any discussion on another building until a year from now,” said a trustee.
Trustees say, the one-year delay will allow the village to study traffic patterns during the busy summer months, especially the time from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Additionally, Schaefer emphasized that if traffic does not improve, he sees no possibility for future development.
