RIB MOUNTAIN, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A Wisconsin college student died while skiing at Granite Peak earlier this month, officials have confirmed to WAOW TV.
First responders were called to the slopes on Thursday, February 5, at about 7:30 PM and found Alexandria J. Blattner of Neenah unconscious with no pulse. Despite significant lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead by the Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office at a little more than an hour later.
Investigators believe she struck a tree while skiing, according to WAOW.
Blattner was a student at UW Oshkosh, who announced her passing in an email to students and staff from Chancellor Manohar Singh.
“On behalf of the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh, I extend our heartfelt sympathies to Ally’s family, friends, classmates, and all who knew her. We share in the profound sense of loss felt across our campus, and we stand ready to support Ally’s family and loved ones in any possible way we can during this incredibly difficult time,” Said Singh.
It’s the second such death on Granite Peak this year. The other victim, who died in mid-January, also struck a tree while on the slopes.
