AMHERST, WI (WSAU) — An Amherst Junction man is accused of making threatening statements towards an employee at the Tomorrow River School District, prompting an increased police presence at the school today.
According to a news release from the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, the unidentified employee received multiple threatening messages. Some messages included threats to the victim’s family and their role at the School.
Officers traced the messages to 53-year-old Richard Schneider, who admitted to sending the messages but didn’t feel they were threatening. He did turn his phone over to officers, who matched the messages to those provided by the victim.
Schneider has been jailed on suspicion of felony stalking and making terroristic threats. He’s also accused of a misdemeanor count for threatening to abuse or harm a victim.
He is scheduled to make a court appearance this afternoon. Officers say they will provide extra patrols around the school due to the nature of the threats, but emphasize that the suspect is in custody.
