Mathew Samson
MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — One of seven candidates due to participate in a primary election later this month for a seat on the Marshfield School Board has been jailed, accused of domestic abuse and multiple counts of child abuse.
WAOW TV Matthew Samson is being held in the Wood County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond after making a court appearance on Tuesday, which covered two cases. In one, he faces four felony counts for child abuse, causing great bodily harm. The second involves three felony counts for recklessly endangering safety, false imprisonment, and strangulation, along with a misdemeanor for battery. All of those charges carry domestic abuse modifiers.
The accusations come from two separate criminal complaints. In one incident, Samson is accused of kicking an eight-year-old child in the stomach until the child fell to the ground. He’s also accused of picking a child up by their hair, then slamming them against a door.
Another complaint alleges that Samson threatened to shoot himself during an argument with a woman in late January. When she told him not to, he turned the gun on her.
WAOW TV also reports that Samson will appear on the ballot for the February 17th School Board primary as Mathew Samson, with one T. He is one of seven declared candidates for three open seats on the board. Voters will select three names at the polls, with the top six advancing to the April general election.
The 41-year-old is due back in court on February 12th to enter a plea.
